Poor Hubby can’t catch a break! First his feet, then his bp, now the car!
Just a very VERY quick note about this. Hubby heard a noise when he pulled out of the driveway – we looked and saw nothing. I was sitting behind him in MY car on the way to work and I smelled burning oil or rubber I wasnt sure. As we continued I realized it WAS hubby’s car. AND i started to see smoke from the right side of his car.
I called his cell and told him he had to pull over. It went something like this:
me: Hubby I smell burning oil maybe and I see smoke
hubby: oh – okay
Very dramatic – I know! LOL! Just hold your horses here is the dramatic part…
Hubby pulled over just before the highway. He pulled off onto the ramp into the mall parking lot and at the end of the ramp only a few feet from the parking lot…. his tire POPPED!
His poor saab hobbled into the lot. The tire was STEAMING! I dont know much about cars but I do know this is not normal. The burning smell was definitely burning rubber. Blehhh.
Hubby was going to try and change the tire BUT the tool to remove the caps from the nuts/bolt was missing AND we knew it was more than just a tire and would need to be towed.
AAA – was sucky. And THANKFULLY Hubby still had the Roadside assistance with Saab so they came to get him and towed the car to the nearest dealership. After the tow-truck brought him to the dealership the service people told Hubby that the coil/spring thinger has been known to rust and break and then it twists and rubs or cuts into the tire.
They also said it was under warranty and that hopefully they can get him a new tire as well for free, since the broken piece is what caused the tire to pop.
I asked Hubby to take picture of black saaby gettin’ on the tow truck but I am not sure if he did. For now Black Saaby is getting fixed, getting an oil change as well and Hubby has a loaner car to motor around in/get to work.
He should get to work just in time for lunch. Score!
** UPDATE **
Hubby DID take pictures! WAHOOO!! His car is all fixed but he got to the dealership a little late and they were closed so, he will have to wait until tomorrow to pick up Black Saaby. Please note the beautiful pictures that Hubby took – the last one is actually kind of cool with the snow flakes coming down – minus the fact that the car is on the bed of a tow truck- LOL!
Somebody needs to tell your Hubby that you can’t lift a car by yourself to change a tire unless you are Lou Ferigno. Plus while you are holding the car up you won’t have enough hands to change the tire! Just trying to help.

Good thing ya caught it before it blew, could of damaged the rim as well. Bad luck it happen, but good luck being covered under warranty. I’m surprised it those parts rusted so fast! lets hope they replaced it wit something a bit more resistant.
The tire did blow-out! It was just lucky that he had already started pulling off the road and was only 25-50 feet from a parking lot! He got a recall letter a week later about the coil/spring thing. LOL!
