My Father-in-law is the Handy-Man-Extraordinaire!
He is so super that he wired our entire bathroom and installed our shower light all by himself. We gave Hubby the day off because his feet were really hurt and he needed to be off of them for a whole day in my opinion. Every time Hubby got up I would yell at him -in a loving but firm voice – to sit back down! Meanwhile, like I said, my FIL trudged onward!
There was a pencil drawn diagram, lots of wire, lots of wire cutting, lots of exchange boxes, and even one minor electrical *Pop*! I had just finished asking “What should I do if you get electrocuted?” and a minute later a big fireworks like *POP* bursts out of the wire that my FIL was working on. He was working on getting the plastic cap end back onto the old metal cable outer shell thinger (so the metal casing which was sharp wouldn’t cut through the wire and cause a spark/short/etc) and his screwdriver ended up in the wrong place!
I jumped back and surveyed the area and everything was good. I wasn’t sure if my FIL had been shocked or anything so I just looked at him and he said…”Yeah I meant to do that.” I asked him if he was shocked, and he said “Nah, I was holding the plastic end of the screw driver. See the screw driver is all black now!”
Phew – I guess I wont be asking anymore “what should I”, or “what if” questions.
We now have power to the fan/light combo, and a new timer switch for that. It has tiny green lights for in the dark. A new outlet with bright white nightlight for near the vanity. Wiring for by the vanity for the overhead vanity lights. And a light in the shower which Handy-Man-Mikey had to cut a hole in the cieling, go into the attic (in the freezing temps) and install.
